Martin Bridge is at it again with his trials and tribulations of being a boy. In this latest book, The Sky’s the Limit (Kids Can Press, ISBN 978-1-55453-158-5), author Jessica Scott Kerrin brings us two new adventures featuring an irritating cousin and a ultra special package.
The Trouble with Cousins
It’s always an exciting moment when a cousin you haven’t seen in ages comes to spend the weekend. After all the years that have passed, there’s no doubt that fun is to be had, but when Martin’s cousin finally shows up, things don’t go the way he’s planned. For instance, his cousin likes books! Martin becomes upset when his cousin tosses Martin’s favorite Zip Rideout comic books on the floor and moves the rocket collection off the shelves to make room for books.
What’s Martin to do? He’s miserable and wishes his cousin wasn’t ruining his weekend. Worse yet, he has to take his cousin along with him to the 4th of July fireworks display. Will Martin and his cousin ever see eye to eye or will Martin suffer through the eternal weekend?
A Big Mouth Leads to Trouble
In the second adventure of The Sky’s the Limit, Martin finds himself overly anxious about a new Zip Rideout game he’s been waiting to get in the mail. He’s counted down the days until the game’s arrival and it should be at his home by the next day.
Unable to keep his secret and good news to himself, Martin blurts out in class that his game will arrive the next day and, before he can stop himself, he invites his entire classroom to his house for a Zip Rideout game party.
What a big mouth! Martin realizes he needs to stop blurting things out. What’s more, he finds out his mom didn’t get the big job promotion she was hoping for and she’s feeling a bit glum. What will Martin do if all his classmates show up at his house and what if his new game doesn’t arrive at his home in time for the crowd?
A Great Series for Boys
Boys love to read as much girls do, but there never seems to be enough books just for them. Jessica Scott Kerrin fills the gap in boys’ books with the terrific Martin Bridge series. In this latest book, The Sky’s the Limit, Martin Bridge faces the same problems as most kids his age do: he has trouble getting along with a cousin, he can’t keep secrets, and he sometimes acts irrationally. Each story, however, shows how Martin learns and grows from each life experience, making this series excellent for group or homeschool discussions on situations and behavior.
