Supernatural Rubber Chicken

Fowl Language - Mirrorstone
A great series for boys and girls, Fowl Language is the first Supernatural Rubber Chicken book.

It’s not everyday that kids get to read all about a supernatural rubber chicken. What does a supernatural rubber chicken do? He grants wishes for super powers! But wait, there’s a catch. He only grants a super power wish made by his owners and the wishes have to be for someone else.

Fowl Language, written by D. L. Garfinkle and illustrated by Ethan Long (Mirrorstone Books, published June 2008, ISBN: 978-0-7869-5011-9), is the first book in the Supernatural Rubber Chicken series. Written for kids, ages 6 to 10, Mr. Garfinkle packs Fowl Language with oodles of laughs, groans, and gross things only boys should know about (like what is really in the school backpack). This chapter book is great for kids who love funny stories.

Ed, The Supernatural Rubber Chicken

Dave can’t stand staying stuck in Boring, Arizona any longer. When his younger twin siblings, Lisa and Nate walk into the house after their long school day, Dave leaps from the sofa and announces he is heading off to surf the waves in Malibu, California. Then Dave runs into his bedroom and calls out to Lisa and Nate. He tells him he has got something important to give them: his magical, supernatural rubber chicken.

Dave leaves home to go surf the waves. Lisa and Nate dismiss the ugly looking rubber chicken as foolishness until later on when they head back into Dave’s messy room. They look down upon the ugly rubber chicken and the chicken talks.

Ed, the supernatural rubber chicken, is desperate to leave the cesspit that is Dave’s bedroom. He begs Lisa and Nate to get him out of the room and far away from Dave’s dirty underwear. Naturally, Lisa and Nate are stunned.

Supernatural Powers

Ed can grant one wish a day for a 24-hour super power and he can only give that super power to the first person, besides his owners, that touches him. So, if Nate or Lisa would wish that their lazy pet dog would get more energy, all they would have to do is make sure their Dog touches the supernatural rubber chicken.

Wishes, however, never go as planned and sometimes the wishes manage to get in the hands of the wrong person.

Loads of Fun

Fowl Language is one book that kids will sit and read through to the end. The story plot is fast moving and full of action. Kids will also readily identify with Lisa and Nate, their squabbles, and their fear of their teacher, Mrs. Crabpit. There are oodles of groans as Lisa’s wish to give her best friend super charm landed in the hands of the school bully, but everything manages to work out in the end.
